I don't know if you ever read it but it was a really good teen mag. I confess I sometimes bought 17 and YM too. But Sassy was always a bit more girl power/music/politics etc oriented.
As Kottke pointed out, there really isn't an equivalent these days.
"Sassy's founding editor was Jane Pratt, and it had a half Australian, half American staff. Its original main writers were referred to by Pratt as "Sex" (Karen Catchpole), "Drugs" (Catherine Gysin), and "Rock 'n Roll" (Christina Kelly)[1] because of the topics they covered. The fashion department was headed by Mary Clarke and Andrea Lee Linett, and one of their discoveries was Chloƫ Sevigny, whom they spotted on the street and hired as an intern. The Australian half of the staff covered the art & design (Neil McCutcheon) and beauty departments."

"Stranded by volcano, magazine
Attention designers, writers, photographers, illustrators, art directors: are you stranded in Europe or elsewhere by the volcanic ashcloud? Join Andrew Losowsky in producing a magazine.
If you'd like to be a part of the core creative team who will put together this impromptu publication, let me know as well. The only criterion for any contributor is that, like me, you have to be stuck somewhere unintentionally. If all goes well, the results will be published, probably via MagCloud and/or the Newspaper Club, and any proceeds sent to a charity that helps mitigate the effects of climate change on human populations. After all, we have to repent somehow.
Publication name to consider: The Eyjafjallajokull End-Times."

"We're inquisitive: learning from other artists, illustrators, designers, photographers, filmmakers and musicians, whether they're upstarts or icons, famous or shy, verbal or visual.
We're inspired: enchanted by great ideas and strange inventions; by colour and pattern; things fancy and frugal; the charm of vintage in a modern life; the ridiculous and the sublime.
We're adventurous: traveling to destinations both real and imagined, peeking into creative spaces and discovering magnificent people and memorable places.
We're eclectic: curating souvenirs, collecting treasures and celebrating the extraordinary in the everyday.
We're playful: delighting in visual amusements, intelligent distraction, entertaining wordplay and sweet indulgences.
We're UPPERCASE: a magazine for the creative and curious!"

The Last Days of Gourmet

I didn't even know Gourmet was shutting down!
This is a series of photographs taken as the magazine is closing down. It's very mellon-collie and infinitely sad. It's like a cross of what schools look like on June 23rd and what a battlefield looks like the next morning. Gourmet, I'll miss you.
